Gags
was a tech but we can't hold that against him. Here's the email
he sent me about what he has been up too.
Here goes.....
I was a tech at 1 Sig Regt in 1992 and was
lucky enough to be selected for an OS trip. After one false
start of doing the training at Enoggera early in 1992 only to
be told at the last minute I was a reserve, I did a second lot
of training in Randwick and finally went to Cambodia in December
1992 in the contingent that replaced the UNAMIC guys. Started
off in Phnom Penh for a while doing installations of Point to
Point-Multipoint systems.
Then
went to Kampong Chnang for a few weeks, most of which were spent
on the top of the hill with the Radio Relay shelters. Got
to help take the RR shelters down then returned to the troop HQ
at Chnang for New Years Eve. Then moved to Sen Monorom (Mondulkiri
City) where I spent the remainder of my time looking after a satellite
node in a det with two other guys (operators). I am pretty
sure that Sen Monorom was the coldest place over there as we regularly
had to wear jumpers and sleep in sleeping bags.
Returned
to Australia in Oct 93 and was posted to 133 Sig Sqn just as it
moved to Moorebank (later became COMSEC PL). I
was in Sydney for three years and in late 96 got married to Mandy
Dukes (who also spent time in Cambodia). I was posted to
136 Sig Sqn in 97 and at the end of 98 I applied for and was accepted
onto the NCO Commissioning Scheme. Promoted to 2LT and Corps
transferred to RAEME then spent four years at ADFA doing Electrical
Engineering after which I was posted to DMO in Melbourne. I
have been in the DMO since then working in the Tank Program and
the ASLAV Program. I recently discharged after 18 years and
won an APS position in DMO so I am still at Victoria Barracks in
Melbourne. Mandy and I have two kids (age 7 and 8) and plan
to stay in Melbourne for the foreseeable future.
Love the site.....keep up the good work.
