Mick PeslowCPL Mick Peslo

Mick Peslo was created at Diggers Rest or Rockbank in Melbourne by bored RASIGS Technicians on night shift. The story goes that his name was created with a phone directory and a dart. The first name stabbed was Mick, then Peslo. Mick became the joke of the mission. Many SNCOs thought he was a real soldier but every junior soldier knew that he was imaginary.

The popularity of young CPL Peslo started to grow around the traps. He started signing out of the front gate, breaking curfew, traveling the country side, not taking his doxy pills and even scrawled graffiti "Mick Peslo was ere" on the back of a toilet door at Pteah Australii. The graffiti saga had WO2 Hoorigan (Hooligan)from 7RAR fuming, so much so that he gave Mick seven extras. This only made WO Hooligan more angry when Mick did not turn up for his rostered duty and WO Hooligan wanted him charged.

Mick was posted to Install Troop in Cambodia and the young female LT spent a week looking for him to make sure he was interviewed for her Troop Commander's note book.

Mick spent a stint on the Laos border and the Chief Clerk had to dispatch a helicopter to the border to bring Mick back to Phnom Phen to go on his rostered leave break, the helo was intercepted and stopped just in time, the Chief Clerk was informed and he wanted revenge, the only revenge is to share your frustration with another, so the Chief Clerk played the Pezlo gag on RSM Martin. The RSM was upset at the joke and ordered the Peslo pranks stop.

Unfortunately Mick was blown up when he was hit by a train whilst he was in a Siclo full of dynamite. Soon after we heard it was not Mick but his brother who came over to Cambodia for a bit of a holiday that had come to grief, Mick did stay low for a while though only until RSM Martin left.

Mick even featured in a light hearted video in Sok Sapbaay about the story behind Mick Pelso.

POST CAMBODIA

Mick has shown up on a recent exercises in Shoal Water Bay Training Area (SWBTA) such as Croc and Talisman sabre. One young LT was iritating RSTT Hewitt of 1 JSU so he sent him on a little erand and was sent over to 139 Sig Sqn to find him. Gonz (STT 139) informed the LT that Mick was doing some work on the USS Blue Ridge. The LT went over to the Yanks to see where Mick was, only to be informed that the Blueridge had sailed to Hawaii under radio silence 2 hrs ago - apparently with Mick on it.

The LT had to explain to RSTT Hewitt what had happened to Mick - not a pretty sight. The LT was apparently in such a flat spin over the loss of Mick that RSTT Hewitt had to calm him down and tell him the truth about young Mick.

Thats about all I know about our young Mick Peslo - if you have anymore stories or photos please pass them on to me.
